The team here at Skinners of Tunbridge Wells simply loves Christmas, all the Christmas parties; carol concerts, children’s nativities and of course catching up with loved ones. It’s a truly magical time of the year but what we love the most about Christmas, is the opportunity to decorate our homes. Here is our hints and tips on how to create the perfect Christmas interior for your home.

To avoid turning our homes into Santa’s grottos, try not to be tempted into buying an array of Christmas decorations. Clashing Christmas decorations isn’t going to give a stylish overall effect! Focus on a single theme throughout your home. For 2017 you can’t go wrong with a grey and silver colour palette, it’s a tasteful, classic look and with the shops full of festive pieces in this on trend colour, makes it easy to achieve. Combine this palette with decorations in an accent colour, such as purple to create depth and interest in the scheme.

Now you’ve got your theme, you can work on dressing key focal points of your home, such as the front door, hallways and stairs, the dining table, mantle piece and the most important feature, the Christmas tree.

Starting at the beginning of your design journey, adorn your front door with a Christmas wreath, to greet you and your guests during the festive period. Continue the look inside with garlands draped over the bannisters; maybe even add a few tiny fairy lights.

For the mantle piece, consider hanging another Christmas wreath. Wreaths don’t have to be simply front door decorations; they look just as good over a mantelpiece.

When decorating your tree, it’s vital that you get the balance of the decorations rights. To avoid your tree looking overfilled and top heavy, hang your biggest and heaviest decorations on the larger branches at the bottom of your tree. Then, work your way up the tree, hanging progressively smaller baubles as you go, with the most petite designs at the top.

To make the tree look even more festive and have a true Nordic vibe, spray the branches of your real Christmas tree, with snow spray. Nothing says Christmas more than a frosty Christmas tree.

Dress your table to impress, create an elegant, stylish table using statement glassware, fine linens and a beautiful, eye-catching centrepiece.

Scatter tiny baubles and sequins along the centre of a table runner to add excitement to your dining table. Or if your theme is the natural look, then opt for a selection of pinecones in a vase or bowl. If you still wish to add a little Christmas sparkle, apply glue to the tips and dip in glitter.

If the thought of having to be creative fills you with dread, once again opt for the good, old reliable wreath and place this in the centre of the table and simply fill with candles. This also doubles up perfectly as Christmas mood lighting.

Last but not least, the finishing touches........

All in the name of Christmas traditions hang mistletoe to add a bit of fun and romance. Add atmospheric Christmas fragrances, with one of our candles or diffusers, they make great Christmas gifts too! For a Christmas scent, choose from: Berry Garden, Fig & Cranberry and Winter Garden, which are very popular at this time of year.

Layer your home in cosy throws, blankets and cushions for an inviting finish. Cushions and throws in faux fur instantly make us feel in the Christmassy festive mood.
